To reach Limnati we take the road leading from Limassol to Korfi, Limnati and Kapileio. We enter the village on the eastern side and on our left we encounter the National Associations’ building before driving by the Youth Centre.
What is noteworthy is the beautiful paved park from which one can enjoy the view of Kato Chorio towards the north and the green environment created by fruit gardens towards the south. Moving along the main road of the village we encounter the oldest and smallest church of the village also known as “Kato Ekklisia”, which is dedicated to Timios Prodromos.
In the northwest yard of the church stand the busts of Demetris Charalampous and Vasilis Alexandrou, the two heroes of the community who were killed fighting for the freedom of Cyprus during the liberating fight of EOKA between 1955-59 (For further information on the heroes visit the Heroes’ Monuments website). Moving on towards the west we will encounter the Community Welfare Council building and at the end of this street we will reach “Gerovrysi”. Next, the road becomes uphill and leads to the upper part of the village known as “Pano Chorio”. The first attraction stands right in front of us. It is an age-long mastic tree, a tall 600-year-old tree which is considered to be the landmark of the community. Below the tree stands the chapel of Agios Mamas and a plain paved park with a stony fountain and stony benches. On the left of the mastic tree stands the biggest building of the village, which has recently been renovated. The building houses the cooperative grocery store, the Cooperative Credit Society’s offices and some storage rooms. Opposite the building is the Health Centre which covers the needs of the community residents, while the community council offices and the office of the president of the community are also housed in the same complex.
While heading towards the north appears in front of us the large dominating church of Metamorphosis Soteros, also known as “Pano Ekklisia”. The view from the forecourt is amazing. Towards the south one can see the mountain peak of “Papavouno” (451 m) and towards the east the peak of “Mosfileri” (732 m).
The basin of Limnati spreads before us. New and old houses are hidden among the trees and the pergolas. Towards the west “Pera Geitonia” is located on the foothills of the western mountain range and a lot further, towards the northeast is the peak of “Papoutsa” (1152 m).
